Rurrenabaque & The Pampas Tour

And than I hit me.. after the climb I was sick for two days :( Two days I couldn`t do anything except running to the toilet and sleeping. Ah well that happens to everyone here in Bolivia. But than the third day I felt better, and instead of hanging arround in La Paz again I booked the plane to Rurrenabaque!

At 7 am in the morning I was standing on the international airport of La Paz, El Alto. The company Amazonas had only small air crafts which in total transports only 19 people. And the cockpit was not even closed but open for everybody :) Wonderful! The flight was amazing, it took me over the Condoriri mountain range and we almost could touch the tops! After only 40 minutes the small landings lane of Rurrenabaque was visible. The landing itself was a happening, never before have I landed on grass :)

1.jpgOnce outside the airplane it was a nice temperature of 34 C! Yes, welcome to Rurrenabaque. Together with two dutch people I met on the plane we searched for some nice accommodation. We settled down at an (israeli) hostel called Jislene with hangmats and perfect view over the Rio Beni river. After a nice lunch at the center I treated myself on doing nothing but relaxing.

The next day I started my Pampas Tour with Fluvia Tours. I booked it in advanced in La Paz and got a good deal. But I already figured out that prices can drop if you bargain hard enough here. But at least this tour was without Israelian people! So for now worth the money.

13.jpgWith a brand-new jeep we drove to a even smaller town called San Rosa where we changed onto a nice small boat, owned by Ronaldo, out guide for the next three days. Driving on the Yucon river Ronaldo spotted some amazing wildlife: Caymans, Crocs, apes, birds, dolphins and much more. WAUW! The relaxing drive took about 3 hours and than we arrived at basecamp along the river. We had some nice cabins full of mosquito’s. Luckely everyone had a mosquito net, so hopefully we could get a good night rest.

After a quick settlement we went on the boat again off to the Sun Set bar for a beer and the sunset. Unfortunately Ronaldo wasn´t really a talker, so he didn`t said anything about long pants and long sleeves.. and my 28% DEET didn`t stop the mosquito’s. So after the the sun went down billions of mosquito’shad a blast of a party on my legs, arms and everywhere else they could come. Quickly we went back to basecamp, jumped into some better clothes, had a really nice diner, and went off for some more wild life spotting at night. But much more than some eyes somewhere in the distance we didn`t see.. until Ronaldo fished out a small Croc! WTF. Quick some photo`s of it and back into the water.

The next morning we started with the right outfit and boots to go searching for anacondas. With 20 people we were searching for an hour in the high gras.. looking for something we didn`t know how it looks like. But, than I spotted a snake! The giude rushed by and carefully got it out of the mud. It was an Serpende (of however you spell that) so not a anaconda. But amazing it was. We took some photo`s again and released the snake.

31.jpgBack at backcamp we had lunch and than some relaxing time. Arround three we got picked up, dressed in swim-suites because we went swimming. Along the river, we dive into the cool water, where piranya`s, crocodils, caymens were living :) But we were surrounded by nice dolfins that protected us.

The next day we got up at 5 am to see the sunrise over the Pampas. Nice but again these fucking mosquito’s! After breakfast we went Piranja fishing. What a fun was that.. we caught about 7 so that would make a nice lunch.

So the Pampas tour was really nice. Worth the money! And luckely we had a nice group and a nice guide. Also the guides treaded the animals perfect, but afterwards it was not really ECO. We were approching the animals pretty close, even feeding the house caymen which is not really a good thing to do.
